Carpet

Carpet is the biggest selling floor covering for New Zealand homes. It adds warmth, luxury and softness underfoot, and is a fantastic product for insulating against noise. A good quality, well maintained carpet, will be enjoyed for many years.

Guthrie Bowron has a wide range of colours and tones to enhance the feel of any area  when decorating your home. Your choice of carpet can be the starting point for evoking an emotional response and creating the overall mood of a space, or you can choose your carpet to complement paint, wall coverings, fabrics and furnishings.

Carpet not only adds colour, but provides texture. Like colour, texture can also change the look and feel of a room e.g. rough is informal and welcoming, smooth is formal and crisp.

Carpet Styles

Each style of carpet has particular characteristics. Determining your needs will help you to decide the best style of carpet for your home.

Cut Pile Plush

Carpet loops are cut to create a smooth, even finish. Yarn is constructed with a slight twist to give a soft and luxurious look.

Cut Pile Twist

This style uses a higher twisted yarn so that the pile can lie in different directions for a more textured appearance. Twist pile carpets are hard wearing and maintain their finish.

Loop Pile

There are several types of loop pile carpets. Ranging from level loops, sisals, textured loops and multi-level loops – each create a distinctive look. They are hard wearing and durable.

Sisal

Sisal is a loop pile carpet made with textured loops in a straight row. Loop height variations can produce different patterns and textures. Sisal has a classic appearance and adapts to almost any interior setting.

Textured Loop and Cut Pile

Just as it sounds, this style is a combination of cut and loop tufts. The tufts can be of different heights, creating a textured and patterned appearance.

Level Loop and Cut Pile

This latest carpet style is a combination of level loop and cut tufts. It has a stylish finish, with a soft, smooth feel. Because of its unique construction, a range of distinctive patterns can be combined with colours that appeal to individual tastes.

High/Low Loop

This carpet style is created using loops of various heights, giving a textured finish to the surface of the carpet. High/low loop pile carpets are hard wearing.

Shag

Shag pile carpets are characterised by a long-cut pile that lay in different directions, providing a deep texture and a shaggy appearance. This carpet style is extremely durable and provides a sensual and luxurious feel.

Vinyl & Vinyl Planking

Vinyl is an extremely versatile flooring option.  It can be laid in large sheets, meaning that a larger area can be covered quickly and with a minimum of seams. It can also be laid in strips to give your floor a realistic wood, ceramic or stone look.

Of course either way you go, vinyl has lots going for it.  It’s hardwearing, easy to clean and care for, and being soft and warm underfoot it's a popular choice for service areas such as bathrooms and kitchens.

Timber & Laminate

A wooden floor is the perfect type of flooring as it is a natural surface that wears well, and like most natural products improves with age. Wooden floors complement most styles of interior and are equally at home in a stripped down minimalist interior as they are in a warm friendly interior of a country house. Wooden floors are attractive and durable. And now there are laminate floors available as well.  But what’s the difference?

Timber floors are made with a layer of real wood on the top of a HDF core and are laid over top of your existing floor.  Depending on the thickness of the wood layer you can sand back and refinish the floor several times.  They are pre-finished with lacquers, which means no smells and waiting around for layers of polyurethane to dry!

Laminate flooring also has a layered system with an HDF core, but here the top layer is actually a photograph.  The advantages of laminate flooring are they can cost less, are tough, and easy to clean.
